Prof. (Dr.) Buta Singh Sidhu

Prof. (Dr.) Buta Singh Sidhu is the Vice Chancellor of Shobhit University, Gangoh. He is a distinguished academician, researcher, and administrator with more than 32 years of teaching, research, and administrative experience in the field of higher and technical education. He served a full term of three years as Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, along with additional charge as Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur. He completed his Ph.D. in Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee after carrying out three years of research work at the institute.

Prof. Sidhu has made remarkable contributions in academics, research, curriculum development, institutional administration, and international collaborations. He has published more than 200 research papers in reputed national and international journals and conferences, with an h-index of 39 and nearly 6500 citations on Google Scholar. He has also authored two books and contributed chapters to academic publications. His research and academic excellence earned him several prestigious recognitions, including the “Leading Engineer of the World” award by the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England (UK), the “Best Engineering College Teacher Award” by ISTE, New Delhi, and the ISTE Honorary Fellowship for his distinguished contribution to technical education in India.

During his academic and administrative career, Prof. Sidhu introduced several innovative initiatives for institutional development and quality enhancement. As Dean (Academic) at IKG Punjab Technical University, he revised teaching schemes and modernized curriculum in accordance with technological advancements and industry requirements. He also initiated academic audits in affiliated institutions to improve educational quality and infrastructure standards. He played a key role in establishing university teaching departments and founded constituent institutes under the university system. He strongly promoted value-based education by introducing the subject of Universal Human Values and Professional Ethics in academic programmes.

Prof. Sidhu has also contributed significantly towards strengthening international academic collaborations. As Dean (International Collaborations), he initiated partnerships with reputed global universities and facilitated faculty and student exchange programmes. One of his major achievements was establishing a student exchange programme with Dongguk University, South Korea under government scholarship initiatives. He also promoted academic collaborations with institutions such as San José State University, California, USA. In addition, he worked towards introducing joint and dual degree programmes with other universities.

His leadership and administrative abilities brought major institutional achievements during his tenure at MRSPTU. He secured long-pending AICTE approval for constituent colleges, obtained UGC 12B status for the university, achieved NAAC accreditation in the first cycle, and enabled the university to receive NCVET accreditation for skill programmes. Under his leadership, MRSPTU entered the NIRF rankings for the first time through the achievement of its Pharmacy Department. He also established the Corporate Resource Centre (CRC) for placements and industry interaction, and set up the AICTE–BCL Idea Lab to promote innovation and research culture.

Prof. Sidhu has extensive academic and administrative exposure across reputed institutions including Punjabi University, Patiala; IKG Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar; MRSPTU, Bathinda; and SBS State University, Ferozepur. He has served in various important positions such as Vice Chancellor, Dean, Head of Department, Founder Director, researcher, editor, and academic administrator. He has also been associated with several national and international professional organizations and advisory bodies including ISTE, Institution of Engineers, ASM International, Global Engineering Deans’ Council (GEDC), and DST committees.

With a vision to establish institutions of excellence at par with world-class universities, Prof. Sidhu believes in academic excellence, quality research, innovation, discipline, and transparent administration. He is widely respected for his dedication, honesty, strong work ethic, and commitment towards the development of higher education and society.
